Event Overview
The Bodmin Triathlon, also known as "The Dragon", is part of the Cornish Tri Series. It takes place at the Bodmin Leisure Centre, located at Lostwithiel Rd in Bodmin, Cornwall.
Event Distances
Two triathlon distances are offered:
- Little Dragon - Super Sprint: A 200m swim, a 13k bike ride, and a 2.5k run.
- Big Dragon - Sprint: A 400m swim, a 26k bike ride, and a 5.6k run.
The swim takes place at Bodmin's Leisure Centre. The bike course is described as fast and rolling. The run course includes a loop through an enchanted forest surrounding Lanhydrock's Victorian estate.
Series and Awards
The event is a scoring event for the Cornish Tri Series. Participants can earn points towards overall series awards in their age group. To qualify for series awards, athletes must complete a minimum of four events from the series and volunteer (or bring a volunteer) to at least one event.
Age groups are: Open (17-39yrs), Vet (40-49 yrs), Super Vet (50-59 yrs), Vintage (60-69 yrs), and Super Vintage (70+). All competitors receive a medal upon completion.
Volunteering and Charity
The event is organized by intoTRI, a registered charity. Volunteers are a key part of the event, with roles available in setup, registration, and as marshals. Rewards for volunteers include a 50% discount on entry fees for participants who bring a volunteer, and a 100% credit for volunteers themselves, usable for future event entries. Clubs or schools supplying multiple volunteers can receive a donation. Participants can add a donation to the charity when entering the event.
