Event Overview
Candy Cane Course - Des Moines takes place on December 21, 2025 at Big Creek State Park, 8550 NW 142nd Ave, Polk City, Iowa. It is a Christmas-themed running event with several in-person and virtual options.
Available in-person distances are:
- 1 Mile
- 5k
- 12k
- Kids Dash
A Virtual Race option and a Volunteer then Run option are also offered.
The 5k and 12k events use chip timing with live results and awards. Age group awards are given for the 5k and 12k for male and female overall, male and female masters (40+), and the top three in multiple age groups from 10 & under up to 80+. The 1 Mile, Kids Dash, and Virtual events are untimed and do not qualify for age group awards.
Registration, Pricing, and Extras
Entry fees for the Candy Cane Course range from $22 to $48. Youth pricing is available for the 5k and 12k, with participants aged 12 and under paying $22. Packet pickup is available on race day starting 1.5 hours before the race.
Registration for the 5k and 12k includes a custom bib, designer shirt, and finisher medal. The 1 Mile includes a custom bib, designer shirt, and finisher medal, but is untimed. The Kids Dash is for ages 10 and under and includes a mini bib, youth-sized shirt, and a special kids dash medal; children may also run the dash for free without swag.
Virtual participants receive a digital bib, event shirt, finisher medal, and packet shipping, with the option to upload times and photos online. Participants are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots. A referral program offers a partial refund for referring friends.
