BMF UTA Stair Training and Taper Run
This guided training event takes place in Katoomba, New South Wales, two weeks before the Ultra Trail Australia (UTA) races. Organized by Blue Mountains Fitness, the session is designed for participants to practice on the actual stairs and trails used in the UTA11, UTA22, UTA50, UTA100, and UTA Miler courses. The event operates under a National Parks and Wildlife ECO PASS license, allowing for sanctioned training within the national park.
Participants can choose from distance options ranging from 11 km to 24 km. The primary route follows the UTA11 course as closely as possible, with additional trail sections added to reach the longer distances. Because the run serves as a race day preparation, participants are requested to carry the UTA22 mandatory gear. All runners must be at least 12 years of age, though children under 12 may be considered upon individual review.
There are three distinct pace groups available to accommodate different running speeds:
- Hares (Speedy)
- Mid Paced
- Turtles (Slower pace)
A walking group and walk trainer may also be provided if required. Trainers lead each group to provide information on race preparation, nutrition, gear, and course strategy. The start and finish location is on Violet Street, opposite Scenic World in Katoomba. Participants are responsible for bringing their own fuel and hydration for the duration of the run.
