Blue Ribbon Run
The Blue Ribbon Run is an annual fundraising event that supports research and awareness for colorectal cancer and assists North Carolina families affected by the disease. It is organized as a nonprofit event associated with the Julie M. Brown and Christina Gianoplus Colon Cancer Foundation and an endowment at UNC Lineberger, in partnership with Wilmington Gastroenterology.
The event takes place on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Long Leaf Park, Shelter 6, 314 Pine Grove Drive, Wilmington, NC 28409. The course is a loop at Long Leaf Park with the start and finish near Shelter 6. The route is described as stroller and wheelchair friendly.
Distances offered:
- 5K: Run or walk, timed event.
- 1.5 Mile: Run or walk, not timed.
- 5K Family of 4 or more: Individual registration option.
- Virtual Run: Remote participation option.
There is an after race reception at Dockside with live music by the band Lunar Tide. Race shirts are provided to registrants who meet the stated registration deadlines, and blue hydrangeas are sold with profits benefiting the event mission. Awards include top three male and female finishers, top three in multiple age groups from 10 and under to 60 plus, and team awards for fastest, biggest, and most spirited teams.
