Blue Ribbon Run

The Blue Ribbon Run is an annual athletic event held at Long Leaf Park in Wilmington, North Carolina. This nonprofit event is organized for the Julie M. Brown and Christina Gianoplus Colon Cancer Foundation, with the goal of raising awareness for the early detection and prevention of colorectal cancer. Proceeds from the event support an endowment established at UNC Lineberger to assist families in North Carolina affected by the disease.

The event features various participation options located at 314 Pine Grove Drive:

  • 5K: A 3.1 mile timed distance that can be completed by running or walking.
  • 1.5 Mile: A 1.5 mile non-timed distance for runners and walkers.
  • Virtual Run: A 3.1 mile or 1.5 mile distance that participants complete at any location.

The activities take place in the afternoon and conclude with a reception at Dockside. The post-event gathering includes live music performed by the band Lunar Tide to celebrate life and the hope for a cure. Participants receive event t-shirts featuring local designs, and blue hydrangeas are available for purchase, with all profits contributing to the foundation's mission. Registration is available online and through mobile devices using a QR code on the day of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
