The event is held in conjunction with the Singing River Races and uses the start/finish area at 4865 Arrowhead Landing Road.
Course and race details
The race uses a new course of soft crushed gravel and dirt roads inside the refuge. The core loop is 15.5 miles and travels through birding and wildflower viewing areas. Format by distance: the 100 mile repeats the core loop six times with a final small 7 mile loop, the 100K repeats the core loop four times, and the 50K is two loops. The overall cutoff for all events is 31 hours.
Aid stations are planned on the loop and will offer water, electrolyte drink mixes, cola, ginger ale, chips, candy, peanut butter and jelly, cookies, peanut butter pretzels, and other basic foods; the start/finish aid station and the aid station visited twice during the loop will also offer soup, potatoes, quesadillas, and coffee. Port-a-potties will be at the start/finish area and at the second aid station in the loop.
Race operations notes: pacers are allowed for 100 mile and 100K runners starting around mile 47 and must sign a waiver at the start/finish area. One drop bag is allowed for 100 mile and 100K runners and will be placed at the first and third aid stations of each loop. Crewing is permitted only at the start/finish area. All finishers receive a blue heron medal; 100 mile finishers also receive a custom belt buckle. Overall male and female winners in each distance receive a special award. If a 100 mile runner stops at the 100K distance, that result is recorded as a finisher but is not eligible for awards and is listed as unofficial.
