Blue Heron 5K
The Blue Heron 5K is the third annual road 5k organized by Excelsior Running Club in Golden Gate Park. The event is part of the Pacific Association USA Track & Field Road Short Course Grand Prix Series and will include an elite field and prize money. The course runs along John F. Kennedy Drive, loops around Blue Heron Lake, and returns to Peacock Meadows, with 135 ft of elevation gain. Race timing is provided by Ford Timing.
The event is open to the running community and welcomes runners and walkers of all ages. PA USATF membership is required for prize money payouts. USATF athletes must not wear headphones during the race; officials will disqualify any USATF athlete wearing headphones from prizes or Grand Prix scoring. This headphone rule does not apply to other participants, who are asked to exercise caution if using headphones. Strollers must start at the back and avoid impeding other participants.
Portable bathrooms will be available in Peacock Meadows. Public restrooms in the area include facilities near the tennis courts, the Conservatory of Flowers, the carousel and playground, the baseball fields, the Beer and Wine Garden, and at Blue Heron Lake across from the Boat House. Street parking is available along Nancy Pelosi Drive and Bowling Green Drive. Clubs may request tent setup permission from the race director so that setups are included in the event permit; there is no additional fee for club tents.
Registration fee tiers are listed for different dates and categories: super early, early, regular, U18, and parent-child pricing. All entry fees are non-refundable and transfers incur a $5 administrative fee. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
