Blue Heron 5K Fourth of July 2026
The Blue Heron 5K is the third annual road race hosted by Excelsior Running Club around Blue Heron Lake in Golden Gate Park on Fourth of July. The event is part of the Pacific Association USA Track & Field Road Short Course Grand Prix Series and will include an elite field with prize money.
The rolling course runs along John F. Kennedy Drive, loops around Blue Heron Lake, and returns to Peacock Meadows. The route gains approximately 135 ft of elevation. The race is chip timed by Ford Timing.
Race rules and participant notes include a requirement for PA USATF membership for prize money payouts. USATF athletes are not allowed to wear headphones during competition; officials will disqualify USATF athletes wearing headphones from prizes and Grand Prix scoring. Strollers must start at the back and must not impede other participants.
Portable bathrooms will be available in Peacock Meadows. Additional public restrooms are located nearby at the tennis courts close to the start, the Conservatory of Flowers, the carousel and playground, the baseball fields, the Beer and Wine Garden, and at Blue Heron Lake across from the boathouse.
Registration fees are tiered: super early $50, early $55, regular $60, and race day $65. Under 18 admission is $30 and parent-child admission is $80. All entry fees are non refundable and transfers incur a $5 administrative fee. Street parking is available along nearby park drives. Clubs may request tent space to be included in the permit process; a limited number of tent spots are available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
