Blencathra Fell Race
Blencathra Fell Race is an FRA Category 'AM' fell race held on the high fells in the Lake District. The course distance is 13K with approximately 825 m of ascent and follows the enforced "classic" route used for the English Fell Championships. The route includes three checkpoints at Bowscale Fell, Blencathra summit and Souther Fell. Route marshals are posted on the first climb onto the east shoulder of Bowscale Fell, at two escape-route locations, and at the start of the final descent after Souther Fell.
Navigation skills and competent mountain-craft are required; competitors should be prepared to look after themselves in poor conditions. GPS use is not permitted and competitors must carry the full FRA mandatory kit. An OS race map is strongly advised and entry is not allowed without a map. Race maps can be purchased from Pete Bland Sports, Kendal.
Event registration, number collection, kit check and toilets are located at Low Beckside Farm; all parking is at Low Beckside Farm as approaching the village from the A66. Registration is approximately a 10 to 15 minute walk from the fell gate start in Mungrisdale. Entry is by pre-entry only with a stated pre-entry fee of £16 and no entries on the day. Minimum age for competitors is 18. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
