Event Overview
The Haweswater Half Marathon is a road race held in early March. The event is managed by Eden Runners.
Course Details
The course is a single half marathon distance. It starts in Bampton Village and follows an out-and-back route along the shores of Haweswater. The entire course is on quiet tarmac roads, situated in a remote mountain valley.
Event Information
The event is held under UKA rules, and the distance is certified accurate and registered with RunEvents. Team prizes are available. Parking is noted as limited in the small rural community, and car-sharing or cycling is encouraged. The village pub, The Mardale Inn, has cycle stands, and a local store offers a cycle hub for e-bike charging and minor repairs.
Sustainability
The organizers are part of the England Athletics Greener Clubs initiative. They re-use signage and way markers each year. At water stations, cups are donated by local businesses, but runners can also have their own soft flasks or cups refilled. Runners have the option to donate part of their entry fee to the RSPB at Wild Haweswater instead of receiving an official event mug.
Finish and Refreshments
At the finish, runners receive a unique mug with hot tea and a piece of flapjack supplied by Traybakes Ltd of Penrith. Vegan and non-vegan options are available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
