Event
The Haweswater Half marathon is scheduled for Sunday 1 March 2026. The event is held under UKA rules, the distance is certified accurate and the race is registered with RunEvents. Entries for 2026 are open and an early-bird discount applies to entries submitted before 11 January 2026.
Course and location
The race starts in Bampton Village and mainly follows an out-and-back route on quiet tarmac roads along the shores of Haweswater in a remote mountain valley. The event base is Bampton Village Hall, Bampton, Cumbria CA10 2RQ.
Prizes and finish facilities
There are team prizes for groups of two or more. Finishers receive a mug, hot tea and a piece of flapjack supplied by Traybakes Ltd of Penrith. Entrants can choose to donate £2 of their entry fee to RSPB Wild Haweswater instead of receiving the event mug.
Sustainability and event operations
The organisers are part of England Athletics Greener Clubs initiatives and follow several measures: they encourage car sharing and club buses, promote use of local community facilities, reuse signage and way markers, and source cups at water stations from local donations. The event offers complimentary locally produced traybakes with vegan and non-vegan options and notes cycle stands at The Mardale Inn and an e-bike charging and minor repairs hub at the valley stores.
