Bleak Midwinter Endurance Run
The Bleak Midwinter Endurance Run is a timed endurance event held on a loop trail at Sac River Mountain Bike Trails in Springfield, MO. The loop is about 4.15 miles long and runs on moderately technical single-track with rocks and roots. The trail passes through hardwood forest and small glades, and is marked with permanent signs plus temporary directional signs, survey flags, and ribbons. Each lap has approximately 400 feet of elevation gain.
Runners choose from timed events and complete as many full laps as they can within their chosen time. Only completed laps count and runners must check in between each lap to have laps recorded. All runners begin the event in the same direction for the first lap; after that lap they may run the loop in either direction.
Base Camp Pavilion at the start and finish serves as the aid station. The pavilion provides food, drinks, warmth, and support. Crews may set up tents near the pavilion. Port a potties and first aid are located at the Base Camp Pavilion.
All registered participants receive custom swag; additional swag is provided for 12 hour and 6 hour participants. Special awards are given to 50K finishers (8 laps) and 50M finishers (12 laps). Dogs are allowed on leash. Event proceeds support Headington Hill Classical Academy, a 501c3 organization.
