Bleak Midwinter Endurance Run
The Bleak Midwinter Endurance Run is a timed trail event at Sac River Mountain Bike Trails in Springfield, MO. The event offers four timed options: 12 hour, 6 hour, 3 hour, and 1 hour. The course is a roughly 4.15 mile loop of moderately technical single-track with rocks and roots, permanent signs, and temporary directional markers. The trail runs through hardwood forests and small glades and covers about 400 feet of elevation gain per lap.
Runners all begin the event moving in the same direction; after the first lap participants may run laps in either direction. Only completed laps count for mileage and runners must check in between each lap to ensure laps are recorded. The Base Camp Pavilion at the start and finish serves as the aid station with food, drinks, warmth, room for crews to set up tents, port-a-potties, and first aid.
Packet pickup takes place on the event date at the trail. Registration fees are: $95 for the 12 hour, $75 for the 6 hour, $55 for the 3 hour, and $35 for the 1 hour. All registered participants receive custom swag; additional swag is provided for 12 hour and 6 hour entrants. Finishers of 50K and 50M distances earn a special award.
The event runs rain, snow, or shine and will only be cancelled for safety or factors beyond the organizers control. No refunds are available. Dogs are allowed on leash; cats are not permitted. All proceeds support Headington Hill Classical Academy, a 501c3 organization. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
