Bleak Midwinter Endurance Run
The Bleak Midwinter Endurance Run is a timed endurance event held at Sac River Mountain Bike Trails in Springfield, MO. The event uses a single-track loop of about 4.15-ish miles that winds through hardwood forests and small glades. The trail is moderately technical with many rocks and roots and yields roughly 400 feet of elevation gain per lap. The course is marked with permanent signs and temporary directional signs, survey flags, and ribbons.
Participants choose from four timed options:
- 12 Hour run
- 6 Hour run
- 3 Hour run
- 1 Hour run
All runners begin the event running the same direction on the loop; after the first completed lap runners may run the loop in either direction, but they must check in between each lap. Only completed laps counted on the final tally; laps must be finished before the end of the timed event to count.
Base Camp Pavilion at the start/finish serves as the aid station, offering food, drinks, warmth, space for crew tents, port-a-potties, and first aid. Registered entrants receive event swag; additional swag is provided for 12 hour and 6 hour entrants, and special awards are given to 50K and 50M finishers.
Registration fees vary by timed event. The event proceeds support Headington Hill Classical Academy, a 501c3 nonprofit providing assistance for student books, uniforms, and tuition. The event runs in most weather; cancellations occur only for safety or factors beyond organizer control. No refunds are available. Dogs are allowed on leash; cats are not allowed.
