Bleak Midwinter Endurance Run
The Bleak Midwinter Endurance Run is a timed trail running event held at Sac River Mountain Bike Trails in Springfield, MO. The event uses an approximately 4.15 mile loop of single-track trail marked with permanent signs and temporary survey flags and ribbons. The loop traverses hardwood forests and small glades, includes many rocks and roots, and has about 400 feet of elevation gain per lap.
The event offers four timed options:
- 12 hour timed event
- 6 hour timed event
- 3 hour timed event
- 1 hour timed event
All runners begin the first lap in the same direction; after the first lap, runners may choose either direction for subsequent laps, but must check in between each lap. Only completed laps recorded before the end of the timed event count toward mileage.
A Base Camp Pavilion aid station at the start/finish provides food, drinks, warmth, support, space for crew tents, port-a-potties, and first aid. All registered participants receive custom swag; additional swag is provided for 12 hour and 6 hour entrants. Finishers who complete 8 laps (50K) or 12 laps (50M) receive a special award.
The event is held rain, snow, or shine and will only be canceled for safety or factors beyond the organizers' control. No refunds are available. Proceeds support Headington Hill Classical Academy, a 501c3 in Springfield, MO, to assist students with books, uniforms, and tuition.
