Event overview

The Blackall100 is a trail running event on the Blackall Range, Sunshine Coast hinterland. The event includes three distances: 100 km, 50 km and 21 km. The course passes through ferny forests, subtropical rainforest, tall eucalypt trees, waterfalls and small hinterland hamlets. The 100 km race is a qualifying event for the Western States Endurance Run.

Distances and course details

  • 100 km: elevation gain 3290 m.
  • 50 km: elevation gain 1580 m.
  • 21 km: elevation gain 580 m.

All races start and finish at QCCC Mapleton, 70 Obi Obi Rd, Mapleton. GPX and KML files, course maps and specific rules are provided for each distance.

Entry, refunds and transfers

Entry fees include an event shirt and a finishers memento. Refunds are subject to a 15% administration charge up to 31 August. Partial refunds (up to 50% of the entry fee) are possible after 31 August and refunds are not permitted beyond 30 September. Transfers to another person are allowed for a fee of $50 until 1 October. Transfers to another year or to other events are not permitted.

Logistics, mandatory gear and drop bags

Race sign-in and race registration occur on the Friday evening before the event; presentations are held on the Sunday. Mandatory gear varies by distance but includes a mobile phone with emergency contacts, race bib, a minimum water capacity (1.5 L for 100 km and 50 km; 1 L for 21 km), compression bandage, and emergency blanket. Hi-visibility vest and headlamp are required for certain events or night sections. One drop bag per runner is allowed at specified checkpoints; checkpoint drop bags must be soft, under 15 litres and 2 kg, clearly labelled, and lodged at registration on the Friday evening.

Parking, spectators and accommodation

Parking is at Mapleton Community Hall (31 Obi Obi Rd) with a short walk to QCCC; parking on QCCC grounds is not permitted. Spectators and crew may only access designated checkpoints and cannot access Checkpoint 1 or any water stations; there is no general spectator access to the 21 km course. A free shuttle bus is provided for crew and spectators to selected checkpoints. Run Queensland offers accommodation at QCCC Mapleton with shared rooms and linen hire options; accommodation covers Friday afternoon to Sunday morning and includes meals. All entrants receive a Blackall100 shirt; finishers receive event bells and a buff. Prize money is awarded to first male and female in each distance.
