About the race
The Black Hills Super 6 is a fundraising mountain bike and trail run event held at Big Hill Trails in the Black Hills National Forest near Spearfish, SD. Net proceeds benefit Northern Hills Area CASA, a 501(c)(3) organization that advocates for abused and neglected children across eight western South Dakota counties.
Races use looped courses and are held as time-based events where participants complete as many laps as possible during the chosen duration. Options and team formats include:
- 3-hour bike on a 3-mile loop
- 6-hour bike on a 6-mile loop
- 3-hour trail run on a 3-mile loop
- 6-hour trail run on a 3-mile loop
Teams are permitted; 3-hour teams are limited to two participants, while 6-hour teams allow up to four participants. Bike trails include flowy single track and double track. A START/FINISH area and separate aid stations are provided for bikers and runners. The bikers' aid station will offer fruit, trail mix, protein bars, candy, Gatorade, water, and pickle juice. Lunch is provided for all participants and a limited number of event shirts and tanks will be available for purchase at packet pick-up.
Additional event details include preferred meadow parking available for a $60 donation, an approved Forest Service permit allowing tents and overnight camping in the parking lot, a prohibition on campfires, official race timing provided by Mangled Momentum, and a no-refund policy. Organizers are offering $500 cash prizes for anyone who breaks the 6-hour bike course records. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
