Event Overview
The Black Hills Super 6 is a multi-discipline endurance event held at the Big Hill Trails in the Black Hills National Forest near Spearfish, South Dakota. The event features both mountain biking and trail running options, with participants completing as many laps as possible within a set time limit. Held on a 3-mile loop or a 6-mile loop depending on the category, the courses consist of flowy single track and double track trails.
All proceeds from the event support Northern Hills Area CASA, a non-profit organization that provides advocacy for children in western South Dakota.
Distance and Timing Options
Participants can choose between two time durations for both biking and running:
- 3-Hour Mountain Bike: Features a 3-mile loop for solo riders or teams of two.
- 6-Hour Mountain Bike: Features a 6-mile loop for solo riders or teams of up to four.
- 3-Hour Trail Run: Utilizes a 3-mile loop for solo runners or teams of two.
- 6-Hour Trail Run: Utilizes a 3-mile loop for solo runners or teams of up to four.
Venue and Amenities
The start and finish line is located in the meadow area of the Big Hill Trailhead near the warming hut. An aid station at this location provides water, electrolyte drinks, and various snacks such as fruit, trail mix, and protein bars. Lunch is provided for all registered participants.
Free parking is available at the trailhead, though reserved meadow parking can be obtained through a donation. Overnight camping is permitted in the parking lot, but campfires are prohibited.
