Black Gold 24hr and 12hr Endurance Challenge - Belfry, KY
The Black Gold Endurance Challenge is a timed running and ruck event held at Belfry High School, 27678 US-119, Belfry, KY. The course is a one mile loop that begins and ends on the track and runs around the school parking lot. The loop is generally flat with some downhills; reversing direction adds two hills for participants who continue past 50 miles.
Timing is electronic. Chip timing with bib chips is used for individual entries and ankle bracelet timing tags are used for relay teams. Laps are recorded when a participant crosses the timing mat; a halfway mat is also on the course. Participants must wear timing tags on their shoe and bib and keep them on when changing shoes.
Support includes porta potties placed along the route and near the start finish area, parking at the lot next to the track, indoor locker room lodging with showers, and space to camp or sleep in vehicles on campus. Food and hydration are provided by a mix of home cooked meals, donated items, grilling food, water, soda, Gatorade, coffee and pickle juice. Phone coverage includes Verizon and Appalachian Wireless.
Race categories and awards cover individual and team results, ruck sack divisions, and mileage milestones. Ruck weight is 25 lb and sacks may be weighed periodically. The event is organized by Tug Valley Road Runners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
