The Black Gold Endurance Challenge is an endurance running event at Belfry High School, 27678 US-119, Belfry, KY. It offers both a 24-hour and a 12-hour option. The event is hosted by the Black Gold 24hr Endurance Challenge and uses chip timing provided by Brunning Endurance Co. Awards include top male and female in each duration, rucksack awards for male and female, team awards, belt buckles for certain mileage goals, and small wood cut-outs noting completed miles.
Course and logistics
The course is a new one-mile loop that begins and ends on the track and goes around the school parking lot. The course is described as generally flat with some downhills; reversing direction adds two hills. Participants must cross a timing mat for laps to count and wear a timing tag (ankle bracelet) and bib at all times. Relay teams of three may switch the timing tag between teammates; each team should designate a captain.
Facilities include porta potties along the route, parking next to the track, indoor locker-room lodging with showers, and outdoor camping or sleeping in vehicles. Food and hydration will be available, including water, soda, Gatorade, coffee, grab-and-go snacks, soup, sandwiches, and donated home-cooked meals. Phone coverage is reported for Verizon and Appalachian Wireless. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
