Black Gold 24hr and 12hr Endurance Challenge
The event on November 21, 2026 takes place at Belfry High School in Belfry, KY. Participants run repeated laps on a roughly 1 mile loop that begins and ends on the school track and continues around the parking lot. The course is described as generally flat with some downhills and offers an optional reverse direction that adds two hills for those who reach 50 miles. The course is not certified.
Available formats include:
- 24 hour individual
- 24 hour relay (3 person teams)
- 24 hour rucksack (ruck weight 25 lb)
- 12 hour individual
- 12 hour relay
- 12 hour rucksack
Chip timing is used with bibs and a timing mat; relays use ankle bracelet tags that must be worn to record laps. A halfway timing mat is also in place. Laps count when a participant crosses a timing mat. Participants may leave and return during the event but must retain timing tags and bibs.
On-site amenities include porta potties along the route, hydration (water, Gatorade, pickle juice, soda, coffee), a variety of food from home-cooked to grilled items, indoor locker room lodging with showers, and space for tents or sleeping in cars. Phone coverage includes Verizon and Appalachian Wireless. The event accepts donations for local course lighting and signage. Awards include top male and female in each main category, top rucksack performers, top teams, belt buckles for mileage goals, and small wood cutouts noting completed miles.
