Black Copperhead Sting

The Black Copperhead Sting is a trail running event at Rocky Branch Park in Belmont, North Carolina. The event offers multiple distances:

  • 50K
  • 25K
  • 5K

The main course is a repeating loop of 3.24 mile laps with about 293 feet of elevation gain per loop. The route follows named trail sections in sequence: Tread, Canopy, Tread, Eagle, and Finish. The course is marked with red ribbons and arrows. The terrain includes roots, rocks, and climbs typical of park trails.

Event support includes an aid station stocked with a variety of foods and drinks, including water, Tailwind, sodas, pickles, candy, cereal, pretzels, fruit, and bacon. First aid personnel are on standby. The race uses a 10 hour cutoff for finishers. Trekking poles are permitted. Both runners and walkers may participate; dogs and strollers are not allowed unless prior approval is granted. The event proceeds rain or shine.

Finishers receive a handmade pottery medal produced by BlueGill Pottery; each medal is unique. Race photos are released about one week after the event and live results are posted online.
