Bishopton Triathlon
Bishopton Triathlon takes place at Bishopton Lake within North East Wake Park, Stockton-on-Tees. The man-made lake is shallow, no more than 5 ft deep in places, and is sheltered from wind so the water is generally flat and allows entrants the option to stand during the swim.
The event uses a flat, open-road cycle route that includes sections used by the British Cycle Series, time trial events and British Championships. The run is a new 2026 lapped route on gravel paths and grass trails around the lake, designed to be spectator friendly.
Race formats include multiple distances and combinations:
- Sprint Triathlon: 750m swim, 21km cycle, 5km run
- Olympic Triathlon: 1500m swim, 42km cycle, 10km run
- Sprint and Olympic Relays
- Sprint and Olympic Aquabike
- Sprint and Olympic Aquathlon
Participants must hold British Triathlon membership or purchase a single-use Race Pass and hold a race licence. Olympic distance events are for those over 18; sprint distance allows 16 year olds with parental permission.
Included services and site facilities include a finishers medal and t-shirt, chip timed results, way-marked and marshalled routes, complimentary race photography, car parking, toilets and changing, medical cover, refreshments and recovery facilities; sauna and ice bath are available at additional cost. No dogs are allowed at Event HQ. Organiser notes that the cycle route and run course were adjusted following feedback from 2025. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
