Event overview
The Billy Goat Mountain Climb is a trail race on Saturday, April 4, 2026, in the Cleveland National Forest near Silverado, CA. The event offers three distances:
- 17 Miler (Silverado Loop)
- 1/2 Marathon
- 10K
The Start/Finish is on Maple Springs Road, next to the creek near Lost Woman Canyon. The courses include significant elevation gain; the Silverado Loop has nearly 3,800 feet of elevation gain. Runners will be transported by shuttle from a roadside lot a few miles away; the exact shuttle location for 2026 has not been determined.
Course, aid stations and cut-offs
The 1/2 Marathon is an out-and-back that begins on Maple Springs Road, follows the creek on a damaged asphalt road, then continues up a dirt truck trail with switchbacks toward Dead Man’s Curve and Four Corners before reaching a turnaround near N. Main Divide. The 10K follows the same route but turns around at Dead Man’s Curve, about 1.5 miles up the truck trail. The Silverado Loop is a 17-mile loop commonly called the Silverado Loop by locals.
Planned aid stations (water, electrolytes and light calories) are approximately at:
- Silverado Loop: Mile 5 (Bedford Peak), Mile 8 (Bald Peak), Mile 10.5, Mile 13.5 (Dead Man's Curve)
- 1/2 Marathon: Mile 3 (Dead Man's Curve), Mile 6.55, Mile 10 (repeat)
- 10K: Mile 3 (Dead Man's Curve)
Cut-offs are set at the aid station around mile 10.5 for the Silverado Loop and at about mile 6.5 for the 1/2 Marathon.
