BigXmas Trail Festival
BigXmas Trail Festival is a trail running event held at Sale Water Park, Rifle Rd, Sale, M33 2LX. The next scheduled race date is 14/12/2025. The event offers three trail distances that start and finish at Sale Water Park and include sections through Chorlton Water Park and along the River Mersey. The marathon route follows the Trans Pennine Trail to Little Bollington and returns on the Bridgewater Canal.
Race details
The course is fully marked and marshalled. The event is chip timed. Aid stations are available on the Half Marathon and Marathon routes. A bespoke finishers medal is provided for each distance, and runners may opt to have a tree planted instead of a medal through the Trees Not Tees program. Bag drop tents are available in the start/finish area. Free car parking is available at Sale Water Park with nearby overflow options.

Mandatory or recommended items include the ability for marathon runners to carry 500 ml of fluid, a waterproof jacket, hat, gloves, buff, and a mobile phone. Organizers strongly advise downloading the GPX file of the route to a wearable device. Cut off times: 11km - no cutoff; Half Marathon - 3.5 hours; Marathon - 7 hours.
