Bighearted 5K
The Bighearted 5K is organized by the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association (HCMA) to support education, advocacy, and research about hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and other thick heart muscle disorders. The event takes place in Denville, New Jersey on October 11, 2026, with packet pick-up the day before in Morristown and on race day in Denville.
Event formats include in-person and virtual options with the following distances:
- 3.1 miles (5K Run/Walk)
- 3.1 miles (Virtual 5K)
- 1 mile (Fun Run, untimed)
Registration for the main 5K events opens March 30, 2026 and closes August 31, 2026. The virtual 5K accepts registrations through October 11, 2026. The 5K Run/Walk and timed 5K entry fee is $35.00, the virtual 5K fee is $30.00, and the 1 mile fun run fee is $30.00.
Fundraising incentives are offered: $150 in fundraising refunds the registration fee; $300 earns a thank-you sign along the route or a dedication sign with a September 25, 2026 deadline to qualify; $750 earns a HCMA 5K sweatshirt. Early packet pick-up is at 3 Speedwell Ave, Morristown (Hyatt Regency) on October 10, 2026; race day pick-up is at 66 Ford Road, Denville. Parking is available at the business complex at 88 Ford Road and 66 Ford Road. Shuttle information is listed as coming soon.
Trophies will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in these age groups: Under 30, 30 to 49, and 50 and over. T-shirt orders are guaranteed only if placed by September 25, 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
