About the race
Running Through the Decades - 1980s Edition is a themed running event held at Brazos River Park. The event program includes multiple distances and a virtual option, a pre-race costume contest with judged categories, awards for overall and age-group finishers, and volunteer roles with defined benefits.
Distances offered:
- Kids Dash : about 50 meters, for children 10 and under.
- 1 Mile : untimed fun run.
- 5K (3.11 miles) : chip-timed with overall and age-group awards and Masters recognition.
- Quarter Marathon (6.55 miles) : chip-timed with overall trophies and age-group awards.
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles) : chip-timed with trophies for top finishers and full age-group awards.
- Volunteer Then Run 5K (3.11 miles) : chip-timed bib for volunteers who run.
- Virtual Run (13.1 miles) : virtual participation option.
All finishers receive a race medal and shirt; shirts are guaranteed if available within the organizer timeline. Awards include overall Bigfoot trophies, Masters recognition (40+), and age-group pins from 10 & under through 70+. Aid stations with water are provided. Course surfaces include paved trails, crushed granite, and dirt paths; events take place in public parks where other park users may be present.
Volunteer roles range from water station and course monitor to lead bike and mascot, with non-running volunteer benefits including a race shirt, VIP access, and a choice of a future race entry or a $20 digital gift card. The event features music, a DJ, and a pre-race costume contest with categories for best overall, best group, and most authentic 1980s outfit.
