Event Overview
The Summer Meltdown Half Marathon takes place at Audubon Park in Garland, Texas. The event offers multiple running distances on a course that includes paved trails, crushed granite, and occasionally dirt paths. A DJ provides music, and awards are announced live after the finish.
Distances Offered
- Kids Dash: A 20-yard dash for children 10 and under. Not timed. Includes a tee shirt, medal, and recognition pin.
- 1 Mile Run: Not chip-timed. Includes a tee shirt and medal.
- 5k Run (3.1 miles): Chip-timed.
- Quarter Marathon (6.55 miles): Chip-timed.
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles): Chip-timed.
- Volunteer then Run: A limited-availability option allowing participants to volunteer pre-race and then run the 5k.
- Virtual Run: A virtual participation option.
Awards and Amenities
For the 5k, Quarter Marathon, and Half Marathon, awards include a Bigfoot trophy for the first overall male and female finishers, a special recognition pin for the first overall male and female Masters (age 40+), and gold, silver, and bronze award pins for age group winners (10 and under through 70+). All participants receive a finisher medal and a tee shirt (shirt guarantee ends 10 days before the event). Post-race snacks and refreshments are available.
Logistics and Details
Packet pickup is offered for 1.5 hours before the event start. Aid stations are positioned along the course. The event offers youth-based pricing for the 5k and Quarter Marathon for participants 12 and under, referral refunds for participants who refer five others, and group discounts.
