Event details

The Great Root Trail Race takes place on Saturday, March 7, 2026, in Dallas, TX (8701 Isom Ln, 75249) on the Big Cedar Wilderness Trails on the grounds of Mountain Creek Church. The event offers multiple distance options:

Runners will receive t-shirts and medals. Ruckers will receive t-shirts and challenge coins. Rucking awards require carried weight for eligibility: male - 30 lbs, female - 20 lbs. Parking is free; organizers request cash donations to Mountain Creek Church and Big Cedar Trails.

Course and logistics

The main race loop is about 11 miles (11.2-ish) and uses multiple Big Cedar trail segments in a counterclockwise direction, including Texas Sunset, SXSW (South-by-SouthWest), Dragonfly, Ranger, Copperhead Ridge, Barbwire, and a service road to the finish. Expect approximately 1,500 ft of elevation change per loop, about 3,000 ft for the 22-mile event, and about 4,500 ft for the 33-mile event. Packet pickup is at Trailhead Running Supply in Flower Mound on March 5 and March 6, with additional race-day pickup at Big Cedar. The event is a cupless race; participants are asked to bring personal hydration bottles, poles, and headlamps. All course sections and the overall loop are run counterclockwise.
