Big River Adventure
The Big River Adventure is a multi-sport community event held at Big River State Park in Mendocino, California. This annual gathering takes place at the Big River Beach Boat Launch and serves as a fundraiser to support cancer resource services within Mendocino County. The event features various athletic disciplines that utilize the local haul road and the river itself.
Participants can select from several different course options:
- 10K Run on the haul road heading east.
- 5K Run following the haul road to a designated turnaround.
- 5K Fun Walk using the same route as the 5K runners.
- Swim starting from the boat launch and heading east up Big River.
- Paddle for participants with their own canoe or paddle board.
- Kiddie Race beginning at the river boat launch area.
The running and walking routes are located on the haul road, providing views of the surrounding natural landscape. Water-based activities, including the swim and paddle events, proceed east from the start point up the river. To maintain lower registration fees, event t-shirts are not provided to participants. The event includes multiple age divisions for timing and recognition, with specific discounted rates available for participants between the ages of 6 and 17.
