Big Night Out Winchester
Big Night Out Winchester is a night-time trail event that starts and finishes at Winchester Athletics Track. The course uses bespoke fluorescent directional markers and is fully signposted. Runners use headtorches or chest torches to navigate trails and travelways around Winchester in Hampshire.
The routes follow public trails including the South Downs Way, with the 22 km course climbing to Cheesefoot Head and passing Fawley, Morestead and Deacons Hill MOD land. Both distances join the Pilgrims Trail, pass St Catherines Hill and return along the Itchen Way to the track.
Practical details include a staffed aid station, on-course photographers and a bag drop tent at the start/finish area. Car parking is at East Winchester Barfield Park & Ride and is free after 16:00. Canicross entries are not accepted. Runners may choose to have a tree planted instead of receiving a finishers medal.
Mandatory kit and safety notes: all runners must carry a headtorch or chest torch and at least 500 ml of fluid. Backup lighting and weather-appropriate clothing are advised. Organisers strongly recommend downloading the GPX file to a wearable or mobile device because arrows can be tampered with. Cut-off times are 3.5 hours for 22 km and 3 hours for 12 km.
