Big Night Out Winchester
Big Night Out Winchester is a night-time trail running event based at Winchester Athletics Track, Bar End, Winchester SO23 0QA. The course is fully marked using fluorescent directional markers and uses trails and travellers ways around the city.
Runners leave the track and follow sections of the South Downs Way, climbing to Cheesefoot Head before running over Fawley towards Morestead and returning by a circular loop. The route continues onto MOD land at Deacons Hill, joins the Pilgrims Trail and passes St Catherines Hill, then follows the Itchen Way alongside the river back to the track.
Mandatory equipment includes a headtorch or chest torch, with a backup torch advised, and at least 500 ml of fluid to carry. Runners are advised to wear and carry clothing suitable for winter conditions. Organisers recommend downloading the GPX route file to a wearable device because markers can be tampered with.
Practical details include on site registration and a bag drop tent, restricted canicross entries, and car parking at East Winchester Barfield Park and Ride SO23 9PH which is free after 16:00. Cut off times apply for each distance.
