Big Brad Ultras
Big Brad Ultras, presented by Trail Monster Running, takes place on the trails of Bradbury Mountain State Park and the surrounding area on September 13, 2026. The event uses a 15.5 mile loop that passes through Bradbury Mountain State Park, over Tryon Mountain, and around Snow Man's Loop, returning to the park. The course is primarily single-track and includes rocks, roots, and sustained hills with very little flat ground. Each loop contains about 1/2 mile of paved road and 1/4 mile of dirt road. Fall foliage and scenic viewpoints are noted features of the route.
Race options and key facts:
- 25K : one lap of the 15.5 mile course
- 50K : two laps of the 15.5 mile course
The 50K accumulates about 4,500 feet of gain (and equal loss); the 25K accumulates about 2,000 feet of gain (and equal loss). Aid stations are well stocked and manned; the longest gap between aid stations is just over six miles. Drop bags may be left at the start/finish area and can be accessed twice during the race. Each race is capped at 100 participants. All finishers receive a finishers glass; the 50K solo winner receives an Adirondack chair. Organizers note this is a cupless-ish event and request reusable cups. A portion of registration proceeds supports the Royal River Conservation Trust. Camping is available at Bradbury Mountain State Park and additional lodging is available in nearby Freeport. Participants are required to stay on marked trails, avoid littering, use only bone-conductive headphones if worn, and run without pacers. Organizers describe the races as intended for tough trail runners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
