Event Overview

The Big Brad Ultras is a trail ultramarathon event. It takes place on the trails of Bradbury Mountain State Park and the surrounding area in Maine, USA.

Course Details

The event uses a 16.5-mile loop course. This loop is run on single-track trails that are hilly and technical, featuring rocks and roots. The loop travels through Bradbury Mountain State Park, over Tryon Mountain, and around a section called snow man’s loop. There is very little flat terrain on the course, which includes about half a mile of paved road and a quarter-mile of dirt road. The fall foliage is typically at its peak during the event.

Two race distances are offered:

  • The 50K (The Pounder): Participants run two laps of the 16.5-mile loop, for a total elevation gain of approximately 4,500 feet.
  • The 25K (The Half-Pint): Participants run one lap of the 16.5-mile loop, for a total elevation gain of approximately 2,000 feet.

Event Information

The event is cupless, meaning runners must bring their own reusable cup for hydration. Well-stocked aid stations are provided, with the longest distance between them being just over six miles. Drop bags can be left at the start/finish area. A portion of the registration fee is donated to the Royal River Conservation Trust. Each race distance is capped at 100 participants.

Finishers receive a special trophy. Winners of the 50K solo races receive an Adirondack chair from Prospect Mountain Furniture. The event has rules including staying on trails, no littering, restrictions on headphones, and no pacers.

Camping is available at Bradbury Mountain State Park. Other accommodations, such as hotels and bed and breakfasts, are available in nearby Freeport. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
