Event overview

Big Bear SquaTCh South is a trail half marathon and 10K held on October 18, 2026, at Harriman State Park in Tuxedo, New York. The event is co-hosted with the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference and registration proceeds support trail maintenance. The event is capped at 175 participants and has sold out in recent years. Course and logistics

Both routes are single-loop, technical trail courses with rocks, roots, steep climbs and descents, and one short scramble. Estimated cumulative elevation gain is approximately 2,200 ft for the half marathon and about 1,200 ft for the 10K. Parking is available at Powerhouse Park / the Tuxedo commuter lot with a $3 fee. The event start and finish are at Powerhouse Park.

Aid stations, safety and gear

The half marathon has two aid stations: a first station near mile 4.7 with water, bananas and granola bars, and a second near mile 9.5 with water, Skratch hydration, peanut butter and jelly, granola bars, fruit, and gluten-free snacks. The 10K reaches the Johnsontown Road aid station on an out-and-back at about mile 2.5. Organizers provide first aid kits (including menstrual products and wipes) and an AED at race headquarters. Required gear includes a charged cell phone, hydration, a whistle, and a GPX course file; half marathoners must also carry at least 200 calories.
