Big Bang Mile and Science Festival
The Big Bang Mile and Science Festival is a running event hosted by the Shore Athletic Club at Bell Works in Holmdel, New Jersey. The event features a flat and fast 1 mile road course on closed roads that is USATF certified and records-eligible. This festival commemorates the scientific discovery of cosmic microwave background radiation at the nearby Holmdel Horn Antenna.
The race is open to all age groups and includes a variety of specialized categories:
- 1 mile Masters Men (waves for ages 40-49, 50-59, and 60+)
- 1 mile Masters Women (waves for ages 40-49 and 50+)
- 1 mile Open Men and Women (ages 16-39)
- 1 mile High School and Middle School (ages 12-18)
- 1 mile Community Run/Walk and Youth (U12)
- 1 mile Fitness Team Mile (Office, Bar, Gym, Restaurant, and Family teams)
Participants can compete as individuals or part of a team. Team categories include school clubs, fitness centers, local businesses, and families. The event serves as the USATF-NJ 1 Mile Road Championship for Open and Masters divisions.
The event operates rain or shine. For safety reasons, animals and headphones are not permitted in any heat. Strollers are only allowed during the Community Run/Walk session.
