Big Bang Mile and Science Festival - Holmdel, NJ
The Shore Athletic Club hosts the 6th annual Big Bang Mile and Science Festival at Bell Works in Holmdel, New Jersey on July 18, 2026. The event centers on one-mile races held on a flat, fast USATF certified course run on closed roads. It also celebrates local scientific history and STEM interest.
Races are organized as multiple heats and cover a range of categories, including Open, Masters by age groups, High School and Middle School, Community and Youth (under 12), and a Fitness Team Mile for office, restaurant, gym and family teams. Teams for the HS/MS, Youth and Fitness categories are created via the event website, have no creation fee, and must include a minimum of three contestants. Family competitors may compete on a family team and another fitness team category.
This event is the USATF-NJ 2026 1 Mile Road Championship for Open and Masters men and Open and Masters women. Team scoring for USATF-NJ is handled via roster submissions to the timing company and USATF-NJ by the day before the race.
Registration pricing and policies are published for the event: early bird pricing is available through March 31, with later increases and a registration close on July 17; there is no race-day registration. A custom event T-shirt is an optional $12 add-on and size availability is guaranteed only for orders placed before June 15. For safety, no animals or headphones are permitted in any heat; strollers are allowed only in the Community race.
Awards include age-group medals and cash prizes for Open and Masters categories, bonus cash for specified performance standards, and team awards. Portions of entry fees for certain races and teams are donated to the Holmdel Youth Activities Association. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
