Beyond Newcastle 2027
Beyond Newcastle, organised by Wild Deer Events, is a trail event based on the Newcastle Quayside with a city-centre start beneath the Swing Bridge. Two distances are offered:
- 55 km Ultra
- 25 km Trail run
Both routes are fully signed and supported with marshals and feed stations. The 55 km route follows the River Tyne to Wylam, returns along the river to Derwenthaugh Marina, then follows the River Derwent to High Spen, runs through Chopwell Woods and Lintzford, drops into the Derwent Valley and follows the Derwent Walk back to the River Tyne before returning to the finish on the west path of the Swing Bridge. The 25 km route uses a shorter, waymarked route from the same start area.
There are three well stocked feed stations on the 55 km course located at 10, 20 and 26 miles, and one well stocked feed station on the 25 km course at 8 miles. Live chip timing is provided by Timing Up North.
Recommended compulsory kit includes a running backpack or vest, water or fluids, a charged mobile phone with emergency contacts, some food or gels and a lightweight jacket. The event location is Guild Hall Car Park and the Quayside in Newcastle upon Tyne. All finishers receive an event medal, Beyond merchandise and a snack and drink.
