50th Annual Belmar Five Mile Run

The Belmar Five Mile Run is a long-standing road race held along the oceanfront and local streets of Belmar, New Jersey. This event marks the 50th anniversary of the run and also celebrates the 125th anniversary of the Goodwill Hose Co. The competition serves as a fundraiser to support emergency fire and rescue services in the borough. It is noted as one of the larger road races in the state, typically seeing more than 3,000 participants annually.

The event features several categories:

  • 5 Miles (Running race)
  • 5 Miles (Wheelchair division)
  • Kid's Races (Distances for ages 1-12)

The main course is restricted to registered athletes. For safety reasons, participants under 8 years old are not permitted on the 5 Miles course in strollers or carriers. The race enforces a 90-minute time limit for the five-mile distance, requiring a maximum pace of 18 minutes per mile. Prohibited items on the course include bicycles, pets, skateboards, roller blades, and backpacks.

The Kid's Races take place at Silver Lake Park and include activities, t-shirts, and finisher medals for registered children. For the main events, race bibs are mailed to participants who register by specific summer deadlines. The race is conducted rain or shine unless severe weather conditions, such as lightning, pose a danger to participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
