Bedford Triathlon Team Relays
The Bedford Triathlon Team Relays is a team based triathlon held at Box End Park, Bedford. The event uses a three person relay format in which each team member completes a swim, a bike and a run in sequence, with all changeovers taking place in the transition area. The swim and the run take place within the Box End venue; the bike course runs on local roads with a mixture of country lanes and some faster sections.
Distances on the full sprint course are:
- Swim 750 m
- Bike 23 km
- Run 5 km
Teams are limited in number to 144. Entry requires a race licence; participants must hold British Triathlon membership or purchase a single use race pass. Team members must meet the age rule that they are 15 years old by 31 December, which allows some 14 year olds whose next birthday is before year end. Prize categories include top three Open male, Female and Mixed, with separate veteran team categories for teams whose members are 45 or older. The event licensing specifies that only people who are female sex at birth are eligible for the female category, while all individuals including transgender people are eligible to compete in the open category.
On site provision includes a mobile medical crew, toilet facilities and parking within the event confines. There are no aid stations on course; a tea tent and refreshments are usually available. Bike helmets are mandatory and athletes are responsible for the mechanical condition of their bikes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
