Event Overview
The Beckley Half Marathon & 5K takes place in Beckley, West Virginia, starting and finishing at the historic Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine. This site features a preserved coal camp and underground mine, providing a unique backdrop for the race activities. The event offers two distances:
- Half Marathon (21.1 km)
- 5K (5 km)
The Half Marathon route is designed for both competitive and recreational participation. It utilizes a scenic rail trail and passes through the uptown area before returning to the rail trail for the finish. The 5K is an out-and-back course that accommodates both runners and walkers. Children aged 12 and under may participate in the 5K distance at no cost.
Participant Information
All participants receive a commemorative short-sleeve unisex t-shirt and a finisher medal. The event features chip timing, and water stations are positioned along the routes. At the conclusion of the races, a post-race meal is provided, which includes bean soup, cornbread, and West Virginia pepperoni rolls. Finish line photos are also available.
Awards are presented to the top finishers in several age categories for both males and females, ranging from ages 0-12 to 70+. The start and finish area at the Exhibition Coal Mine includes nearby attractions such as the Youth Museum of Southern West Virginia, playgrounds, and paved walking paths.
