Event Overview
Beats for a Cure is a charity event organized by a non-profit of the same name that uses music to raise funds for cancer research and support. The event raises money for childhood cancer care at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital.
The event takes place at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo on a Saturday in August. Participants can run or walk through the zoo grounds, which will feature the Asian Lantern Festival.
Distances and Activities
The event includes several participation options:
- 5k Run/Walk: A chip-timed race.
- 1 Mile Walk: An untimed walking event.
- Virtual Run: A remote participation option where individuals can complete a 5k or 1 mile on their own.
- Spectator: A ticket for non-participants.
Registration opens on March 1st. All participants and spectators receive all-day admission to the zoo following the event.
Registration and Fundraising
When registering, participants can choose to become individual fundraisers or create/join a fundraising team. Prizes are awarded to the top individual fundraiser and the top fundraising team. All funds raised are tax-deductible and go directly to the hospital.
What's Included
Registration includes a race t-shirt, a participant medal, a finisher snack, giveaways, and access to raffle prizes. For the virtual run, shirts are mailed before race week for registrations received by June 30th.
Awards are given for the top three overall male and female finishers in the 5k, as well as the top three in each age category. Age categories range from 13 and under to 70 and over.
Race-day registration and packet pickup begin at 7:00 AM across from the Ticket Plaza inside the zoo. The event has a family registration discount for groups of 4-10 members. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
