Beat Box Hill
Beat Box Hill is a trail running event set around Box Hill in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Base camp is at Box Hill National Trust, Box Hill, Surrey KT20 7LB. The course climbs the Box Hill steps, follows sections of the North Downs Way and passes chalk paths and ancient yew woodland with views across the Mole Valley. The route includes steep, sustained ascents that have been used by riders and runners since the 2012 Olympics.
Race distances:
- 50K: 50 km, 1,374 m ascent, cut-off 10.5 hrs, min age 20
- 31K: 31 km, 787 m ascent, cut-off 7 hrs, min age 18
- 21K: 21 km, 605 m ascent, cut-off 5 hrs, min age 17
Aid stations offer water, electrolytes, sports drink, coke, fruit (banana and orange), sweets/Haribo, salty snacks (crisps and pretzels), energy bars and energy gels; gels are available at select stations. The event is cupless; participants should bring their own cup or soft flask.
Facilities at the race village include bag drop, portaloos, food and snacks, a finish aid station, hot drinks and a kit stall. Race bibs are collected at the Event Village on race-day morning and registration opens before each start. All races are chip-timed with results posted online. A mandatory pre-race briefing is held at Base Camp before each race. Walking poles are permitted. Headphone use is discouraged; open-ear or bone-conducting headphones are allowed so announcements can be heard.
