32nd Beat Beethoven 5K
The Beat Beethoven 5K is an annual running event held in Fairbanks, Alaska, that serves as a fundraiser for the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra. The event is open to participants of all ages and abilities. The race features a unique format where the start coincides with the beginning of Beethoven's 5th Symphony.
Participants begin the 5 km course at the moment the conductor provides the downbeat for the music. The objective for runners is to complete the distance before the symphony concludes.
The music for the race is provided by a recording of the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra. This performance is streamed via the local radio station, KUAC, allowing participants to listen to the symphony throughout the duration of their run. The 32nd edition of this race takes place on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus area near Tanana Loop. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
