Beast of the Beacons 10, 20 and 40 Mile Trail Running Challenge
The event is a marked trail running race set in the Brecon Beacons National Park, starting and finishing at Henderson Hall, Talybont on Usk and Gilestone Farm. The route follows trails through forests, mountains, rivers and reservoirs and includes rough terrain, climbs, rocky sections, mud and potential snow early in the season. Marshals provide on-course support.

Reported elevation gain varies between sources. The 10 mile route is listed at about 2026 ft. The 20 mile route is reported as roughly 3884 ft or 4219 ft. The 40 mile route is reported as roughly 7768 ft or 8438 ft. Cut off times are listed as 8 hours for the 20 mile and 16 hours for the 40 mile; published times for the 10 mile vary between 5 and 8 hours.
Checkpoints are described as well stocked with nuts, bananas, sweets, biscuits, crisps, electrolytes, coke, squash, water and sometimes homemade cake; vegan options are available. The course is marked and there is a full medical team, physio and first aid support.
Canicross is permitted; dogs must be at least 12 months old, fit to run, kept on a lead and are the owner’s responsibility. A detailed mandatory kit list is enforced and includes waterproof jacket and trousers, race vest or pack, capacity for one litre of fluid, map or GPX file, charged mobile phone, head torch and whistle, first aid items, foil blanket and reusable cup.
