Beast of the Beacons
The Beast of the Beacons is a trail running event held from a base at Henderson Hall in Talybont on Usk within the Brecon Beacons National Park. The event offers marked routes with marshal support across a variety of terrain including forests, mountains, rivers and reservoirs.
Distances
- 10 Miles / 16 km
- 20 Miles / 32.5 km
- 40 Miles / 65 km
The 40 mile course follows the 20 mile route a second time in reverse. The route includes climbs, rocky sections, soft forest trails, mud and river crossings; snow can sometimes be encountered. Checkpoints are described as well stocked and provide options to meet dietary requirements, including vegan choices, with items such as fruit, nuts, biscuits, electrolytes, drinks and homemade cake.
Cut off times are 8 hours for the 10 mile and 20 mile routes and 16 hours for the 40 mile route. The event is canicross friendly; dogs must be at least 12 months old, kept on a lead and are the owner’s responsibility. Trophies are not allocated to canicross participants.
A full mandatory kit list is enforced and checked at registration; no participant will be allowed to start without the required kit. GPX files are available for download and the 40 mile uses the reversed 20 mile GPX. Entry fees are listed per distance and prizes include a bespoke medal and handcrafted Welsh slate trophies for top finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
