Event details
The Beast of the Beacons is a trail running event on Saturday 18 April 2026 at Gilestone Farm, Tal-y-Bont on Usk, Powys. Distances offered are:
- 10 Miles / 16 km
- 20 Miles / 32.5 km
- 40 Miles / 65 km
Minimum age is 16. Entry fees listed are £48 for the 10 mile, £60 for the 20 mile and £80 for the 40 mile. The course is marked and marshals provide support. GPX files are provided for the routes; the 40 mile follows a reversed second lap of the 20 mile route.
Course and facilities
The route uses trails through forests, mountains, rivers and reservoirs and includes climbs, rocky sections, soft forest trails, mud and occasional snow. Wildlife such as red kites may be seen. Facilities at the event include camping at HQ, toilets, onsite catering and refreshment vans, physio and a full medical team. Parking is subject to a charge.
Checkpoints and rules
There are multiple refuel zones with food and drinks; checkpoints provide options for different dietary requirements including vegan choices, plus electrolytes and water. The event is canicross friendly; dogs must be at least 12 months old, fit to run and kept on a lead, and owners are responsible for their animals.
