Event Overview
Beast of the Backroads is a multi-discipline sports event held in Longview, Texas. The event takes place over two days at the Macedonia Baptist Church and features a variety of cycling and running distances. All courses are entirely paved, utilizing oil top and FM roads that connect the areas of Longview, Hallsville, Harelton, and Marshall.
Cycling Challenges
The cycling portion occurs on Saturday and includes several distance options. The longest route involves a loop with 7,000 feet of elevation gain. Participants are required to carry a communication device and wear an approved helmet. Organizers recommend road bikes with tubeless tires, gravel bikes, or mountain bikes; time trial bikes are not permitted for the longer distances. Aid stations providing nutrition, water, and electrolytes are positioned along the routes.

Running and Rucking
On Sunday, the event hosts running and rucking competitions. The rucking category requires participants to carry specific weights based on body mass: 30 lbs for those over 150 lbs, and 20 lbs for those under 150 lbs. Runners are instructed to stay on the left side of the road and carry a phone with the route file.

Course Conditions and Safety
The routes remain open to public traffic, requiring participants to watch for vehicles at intersections and road crossings.
