Event Overview
The Beast of the Backroads is a multi-sport event in Longview, Texas, featuring bike races and running events. The event takes place over two days at the Macedonia Baptist Church.
Bike Events
The cycling events include three distances:
- 103-mile race with 7,000 feet of elevation gain. It offers cash prizes for the top five men and women.
- 65-mile race
- 26-mile race
The entire course is paved, using oil top and FM roads. The route goes from Longview to Hallsville, Harelton, Marshall, and back to Longview. The roads are open to public traffic. Riders are recommended to use road bikes with 28-32mm tubeless tires, gravel bikes, or mountain bikes. E-bikes are permitted on the 26-mile course.
Running Events
The running events include:
- A 10-mile race
- A 5k race
- A 10-mile ruck with weight requirements based on participant weight.
Event Schedule and Details
Packet pickup is available the day before the event at Woolley G's in Longview. On the main event days, packet pickup, a mandatory riders meeting, and staggered race starts occur at the Macedonia Baptist Church. Aid stations provide food, water, and electrolytes for both cyclists and runners.
Participants receive race swag, including a hoodie, t-shirt, and water bottle for registering by a specific date. All finishers receive a medal, and the ruck finishers get a patch.
