Beacon Beast Marathon and The Beastly Half
The Beacon Beast Marathon and The Beastly Half are multi-terrain races based in Bodmin. The routes follow The Bodmin Way and utilize a network of public footpaths and sections of local roads to connect various natural sites and villages.
The event offers two main distances:
- Beacon Beast Marathon: A 27-mile course with approximately 3,000 feet of elevation gain.
- The Beastly Half (Beastie McBeastRace): A 14-mile course with approximately 2,800 feet of elevation gain.
Participants travel through several locations including the Lanhydrock National Trust Estate, Redmoor Nature Reserve, and the Beacon Nature Reserve. The course also passes through Cardinham Woods, Lanivet, Nanstallon, and Cardinham Village. Runners can expect varied terrain including stretches of mud, stiles, and significant elevation changes within the wooded areas. The final mile of both races features a downhill section followed by a climb up the steps to St Petroc's church.
The event is organized by the local parishes and supported by community volunteers. Aid stations are situated at local churches along the route, except for the Lanhydrock station located in the main car park. The organizers provide route guidance through biodegradable tape, directional arrows, marshals, a written route description, and a GPX file. The half marathon distance is part of the local Multi Terrain Running Series for 2026. All finishers receive a bespoke medal and a t-shirt.
