Beacon Beast Marathon and The Beastly Half
The Beacon Beast Marathon and The Beastly Half take place in Bodmin, starting and finishing at Shire House in Priory Park. These multi-terrain events follow the Bodmin Way, a route created by the local parishes of Bodmin, Nanstallon, Lanivet, Lanhydrock, and Cardinham. Participants traverse a variety of landscapes, including public footpaths, local roads, and wooded areas.
The course passes through several notable locations, such as the Lanhydrock National Trust Estate, Redmoor Nature Reserve, and Cardinham Woods. Runners also encounter the Beacon Nature Reserve, parts of The Saint's Way, and Helman Tor. The final mile of both distances features a downhill section followed by a climb up the steps to St Petroc's Church.
Available distances include:
- 27 miles with 3000 ft of elevation
- 14 miles with 2800 ft of elevation
The 14-mile race, also known as the Beastie McBeastRace, is part of the local Multi Terrain Running Series. Aid stations are located at local churches and the Lanhydrock car park, managed by volunteers from the local community. The organizers provide navigation support through biodegradable tape, directional arrows, marshals, a written route description, and a GPX file. All participants must be at least 18 years old on the day of the event. Finishers receive a medal, a t-shirt, and a beverage. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
