About the race
The 5k on the Beach is a Friday night road race on the Rockaway Boardwalk held on Friday dates in July and August 2026 (July 17 and August 14, 2026). The event uses a boardwalk course with repeated out-and-back sections that bring runners past the start line multiple times and make the route spectator friendly. The course begins on the ramp by the northwest corner of the hockey rink, proceeds west to Beach 116 Street, turns and runs east past the starting area to Beach 102 Street, then returns to repeat that circuit a second time before finishing at the ramp down to the beach on 108th Street. Start, finish and turnaround points are marked for race day. The event is organized into three waves: an Open wave and two seeded waves (Men’s seeded with an estimated goal time near 21 minutes and Women’s seeded with an estimated goal time near 24 minutes).
Participants are asked to include a goal time at registration to assist with wave placement. Logistics notes include limited bag check on site, nearby street parking (more available above 116th Street) and multiple public-transit options: NYC Ferry service to the Rockaways, plus subway and bus access with the Rockaway Beach 116th Street subway stop a few short blocks from the start.
