Be A Blessing 5K & 1M Fun Run
The Be A Blessing 5K & 1M Fun Run takes place on October 24, 2026 at Sam Peden Community Park in New Albany, Indiana. The event is organized to support Blessings in a Backpack Floyd County, an initiative of the New Albany Floyd County Education Foundation.
Distances
- 5K: 3 laps around the lake; untimed event.
- 1 mile: 1 lap around the lake.
The course follows the paved path around the lake. The 5K is described as three laps of that path and the 1 mile as one lap. The event is untimed; participants may walk, jog, run, or stroll at their own pace.
Proceeds and fundraising efforts go toward purchasing weekend food for over 2,000 NAFCS preK through 8th grade children. Blessings in a Backpack Floyd County serves students at nine elementary schools and three middle schools. The organizer reports that just under one in six Floyd County children face food insecurity and that 38% of NAFCS preK–8 students would leave school on Friday unsure if they will have enough to eat without this support.
Participants receive finisher medals and an official race shirt while supplies last. A personalized fundraising page is available after registration; 100% of donations are used to cover the cost of food.
