Bat Challenge
The Bat Challenge is a six hour looped trail event on 8 May 2026 at Beacon Hill Country Park, Lower Car Park, LE12 8TA, England. The course is a measured off-road loop of 3.3 miles that runners repeat within the event time limit.
The route climbs from the lower car park along well maintained crushed stone paths toward the trig point and then descends back to the start. The trig point is not on the official route. Underfoot is generally decent but may be mucky depending on weather; the route is not technically difficult. The top of the course offers open views across the park.
Participants choose how many laps to complete within six hours; completing eight laps approximates a marathon distance and four laps approximates a half marathon. Parts of the event take place in dusk and darkness for those who continue into the evening. Participants starting a lap after dusk must carry a head torch.
Practical details include parking charges of £3 for under three hours and £4 for the day payable by card or coin, and the nearest train station is Loughborough, about six miles away. Dogs and canicross entries are not permitted. A GPX file of the route is available; the route may be subject to last minute changes and will be waymarked on the day. Rucking is permitted. Entry fees are tiered: £37 before 08/04/2026 and £42 after; unaffiliated entrants pay £2 extra. Participants can opt to make donations to Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity and there is an alternative tree token in place of a medal that results in a tree being planted and provides wildflower seeds.
