Bat Challenge
The Bat Challenge is a six hour lap event held on 30 April 2027 at Beacon Hill Country Park, Lower Car Park (LE12 8TA), England. Participants run or walk as many 3.3 mile laps of the marked off-road route as they choose within the time limit. The event starts in daylight and may continue into dusk and darkness; participants should carry a head torch for laps begun after sunset.
The route climbs from the lower car park toward the trig point on well maintained crushed stone paths, then descends back to the start. The trig point is not on the official loop. Underfoot is generally decent but may be mucky depending on weather; the surface is not highly technical.
Distances and common targets:
- 3.3 mile off-road lap; one lap is roughly 5k.
- Half marathon equals 4 laps.
- Marathon equals 8 laps.
- Multiple laps within six hours can exceed 50 miles.
Logistics include parking fees of £5 for under three hours and £5.50 for a full day, payable by card or coin. The nearest train station is Loughborough, about 6 miles away. A GPX of the route is available. Dogs are not permitted. Entry fees are tiered with early and later prices and an extra charge for unaffiliated entrants. An eco alternative to a medal is a tree token; the event also supports a children’s charity through optional donations. The Bat Challenge has run in previous years.
