Bat Challenge
The Bat Challenge is a flexible distance trail event held at Beacon Hill Country Park in Leicestershire. Participants navigate a 3.3 mile (approximately 5.3 km) off-road loop consisting of well-maintained crushed stone pathways. The course features a significant elevation change, climbing steadily for the first half towards a high point with expansive views before descending back to the start. While the surface is not technical, it can become muddy depending on weather conditions.
The event follows a 6-hour format where participants choose how many laps to complete within the time limit. This allows for various total distances:
- 5 km (1 lap)
- Half Marathon (4 laps)
- Marathon (8 laps)
- 50 km or more (Multiple laps)
As a late afternoon and evening event, the run begins in daylight and transitions into darkness. Participants are permitted to take breaks between laps. Any runner starting a lap after a specific time in the evening is required to carry a head torch for safety. The event is open to runners, hikers, and walkers. Rucking is also a supported activity at this venue.
The race starts and finishes at the Lower Car Park. Facilities include on-site parking for a fee, and the location is approximately 6 miles from Loughborough train station. Participants receive a medal and a drink upon finishing, or they may opt for a seed-bearing tree token. Dogs are not permitted to participate in this event.
