Event overview

The Conservation Marathon is a Boston-qualifying race held on Sunday, November 1st in Springfield, Missouri. Distances offered during the marathon weekend include:

The marathon course starts in front of Bass Pro Shops (1935 S. Campbell Avenue) and finishes at the John A. and Genny Morris Conservation Center / Wonders of Wildlife Museum and Aquarium (600 W. Sunshine). Routes run through neighborhoods, paved trails, part of historic Route 66, around Missouri State University and through downtown Springfield. The course is mostly flat with a few rolling hills. The Cohick Half Marathon and the marathon share the same course for the first 10 miles.

Logistics and services

Packet pickup is at the John A. and Genny Morris Conservation Center during the Marathon Weekend Expo. Each registered participant receives a race shirt and a finisher medal; shirt sizes are not guaranteed and exchanges are restricted until after the event. Medal engraving is available for purchase after the race.

Aid stations are placed approximately every two miles and offer water and Powerade; select stations also provide fuel items such as GU, gummy bears, espresso beans and pickle juice. A bag check is available; clear bags are required and bags are security screened. Medical coverage is provided by Mercy Health System with physicians, athletic trainers and EMS support.

Race transfers and distance changes are allowed online for a fee ($10); transfer and change deadlines are listed in event registration materials. Cash prizes are awarded to top finishers and masters; runners under 16 are not eligible for awards. The route is not fully closed to traffic and intersections are controlled by police; participants must obey traffic rules. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
