Event Overview
The Barr Trail Mountain Race is a historic summer mountain running event held in Manitou Springs, Colorado. The race follows a 12.6-mile course that utilizes the iconic Barr Trail on Pikes Peak. This event operates under a special use permit from the Pike National Forest and marks its 25th running in 2026.
Course Details
The race follows an out-and-back format starting at the Cog Railway Station at an elevation of 6,570 feet. Participants ascend the trail to Barr Camp, reaching an elevation of 10,200 feet. At Barr Camp, runners turn around and descend the same path to finish at the Barr Trailhead.
The event is managed as a cup-less race. Participants are required to carry their own refillable cups or reservoirs for hydration and nutrition while on the course.
Series Participation
This race is a component of the Garden to Peak Challenge. To complete this challenge, runners must finish three specific events within mandatory cut-off times:
- Garden of the Gods 10-Mile Run
- Barr Trail Mountain Race
- Pikes Peak Ascent or Pikes Peak Marathon
