About the race
BALS Backyard is an inaugural Last Person Standing race held at Westminster Park in Rock Hill, SC. The event uses a looped trail at 4000 India Hook Road and runs until only one runner remains.
The course is a 4.167 mile loop with about 400 feet of elevation gain and loss per loop. Day and night loops follow the same route. The last remaining runner must complete one additional loop to be declared the winner. Participants who complete eight loops (50K) will receive a pin. Runners must be in the corral when the bell signals the start of each loop, may not exit the course midloop, and may not receive aid from crew while on the loop; violations result in a DNF.
The venue includes a playground, open fields, an 18 hole disc golf course, restroom facilities, river fishing with a license, and a large pavilion that can shelter one hundred or more participants. The pavilion will host a live stream for much of the race.
Crew spots are 12 feet by 12 feet and are assigned by registration order. Crew areas may be set up on the day before the race and on race morning. Packet pickup is available on the evening before the race and on race morning at the start/finish area.
There is a single aid station at the pavilion offering water, Just Ingredients electrolytes, a few minimal organic snacks, and some homemade organic items. Participants are responsible for their own fueling strategy.
Swag bags include BALS logo merchandise, a BALS sticker, and other small items. All finishers receive a custom handmade award and a BALS Backyard sticker. Two riddles will appear on course and the first correct answer will win a gift certificate. The event is scheduled to proceed rain or shine; no refunds are issued except for major disruptions. Pregnancy deferrals of one year are available and bib transfers are permitted up to five days before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
