BALS Backyard at Westminster Park, Rock Hill, SC
BALS Backyard is a Last Person Standing event held on a 4.167 mile loop in Westminster Park. The loop is the same for daytime and nighttime laps and has approximately 400 feet of elevation gain and loss per loop. The race continues until only one runner remains; the final runner must complete one additional loop to be declared the winner.
The venue includes park trails, a playground, open fields, an 18 hole disc golf course hosting the National Collegiate Championships, restroom facilities, fishing along the river with the appropriate license, and a large pavilion capable of sheltering many participants. The event will be streamed for remote viewing.
Race format and rules require runners to be present in the corral when the bell signals the start of each hourly loop. Runners may not receive aid from crew while on course, and any items taken out of the corral must be returned to the corral; failure to follow these rules results in an on-the-spot DNF. Runners who cannot complete a loop within 60 minutes will be scored as DNF.
There will be one aid station at the pavilion offering water, electrolyte product samples, minimal organic snacks, and some homemade organic items. Crew areas are 12 feet by 12 feet and are assigned in registration order. Packet pickup takes place the day before and the morning of the event at Westminster Park; some details are listed as TBD. Registration closes October 15, 2026. No refunds are issued except under specified extraordinary circumstances; transfers and a one year pregnancy deferral are permitted.
