Bahia Shrine Camel Walk/Run
The event is held at the Northwest Recreation Complex in Apopka, Florida. It features multiple walk and run options on a flat course with entertainment from Bahia Shrine parade units.
Participants can choose from these distances:
- 5K (3.1 miles)
- One mile
- Challenge: one mile plus 5K (4.1 miles total)
- 0.05K (164 feet) fun race with unlimited repeats
- Virtual 5K option
Registration opens August 1, 2026 and registration windows vary by event. T-shirts are provided to 5K participants and a finisher medal is awarded for the 5K; shirts are guaranteed only for registrations received by the organizer's shirt guarantee deadline and extra shirts will be available first come, first served.
The event is scheduled to go on rain or shine with no backup date. In the case of a cancellation for unforeseen circumstances the event will switch to a virtual format so participants can still receive shirts and medals. Refunds are not offered; registrants who cannot attend may be able to change to the virtual option.
A guest camel named Sir Gus, Jr. may appear for photos, though his appearance depends on weather and transportation. Awards include 1st through 3rd overall plus male and female age group awards for the listed age divisions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
