Badger Challenge Event Overview
The Badger Challenge is a multi-discipline sports event taking place in Madison, Wisconsin. Hosted at the UW Health Eastpark Medical Center and the American Family Insurance Headquarters, the event brings together cyclists, runners, and walkers to support cancer research and patient treatment at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The program includes a wide variety of distances and formats to accommodate different physical activity preferences.
Running and Walking
The running and walking portions of the event take place on courses designed for diverse participation. The half marathon distance routes through the Sun Prairie area and includes aid stations positioned approximately every mile. Shorter distance options include a 5K run and a 5K walk, both of which take place on courses entirely closed to through traffic for participant safety.
Cycling Routes
The cycling component offers several road distances heading east through local communities and scenic countryside. These routes vary in technical demand based on elevation gain and total distance:
- 100 Miles: Includes approximately 4,000 feet of elevation gain with seven rest stops.
- 100K: Features 2,500 feet of elevation gain and five rest stops.
- 50K: Covers 1,500 feet of elevation gain supported by three rest stops.
- 25K: Involves 650 feet of elevation gain with one rest stop provided.
- 5K: A closed-road circuit located within the American Family site.
Event Mission and Facilities
All funds raised by participants are directed toward cancer research and patient care initiatives. The event concludes with a post-event party at the start and finish site where participants from all disciplines gather.
