Backyard Everest : Black Hill Conservation Park, Athelstone, South Australia (12–13 September 2026)

Backyard Everest is an elevation-based ultra event in Adelaide where runners complete a repeated loop to accumulate height. The course is a 5.3 km loop with approximately 369 m of ascent per lap. The core format is to run one loop on the hour, every hour, building elevation lap by lap for up to 24 hours. The full 24-hour challenge totals 24 laps, about 129.36 km and 8,856 m of vertical gain.

The event uses seven summit milestones to mark progress toward Mount Everest. Examples from the milestone list include:

  • Table Mountain: 3 laps/hours; total vert 1,107 m; total distance 16.17 km.
  • Mount Kosciuszko: 6 laps/hours; total vert 2,214 m; total distance 32.34 km.
  • Mount Kilimanjaro: 16 laps/hours; total vert 5,904 m; total distance 86.24 km.
  • Mount Everest (full challenge): 24 laps/hours; total vert 8,856 m; total distance 129.36 km.
