Sticks & Stones 15K
Sticks & Stones 15K is a fall point to point trail race held in Babcock State Park, West Virginia. The course begins at Historic Camp Washington Carver and follows the rim of Mann's Creek Gorge before descending into the canyon. The route adds 2.2 miles of trail compared with the Grinder big loop and removes about one mile of road, leaving roughly nine miles of trail within the 15K distance. The only road section is the approach to the historic Gristmill and the short run toward Skyline and the finish.
The course passes rhododendron tunnels, waterfalls, cliffs, bridges and scenic overlooks and takes place during peak fall colors. Race services include chip timing, a shuttle from the finish to the start, two aid stations on course (mile 2.5 and mile 7 at the Gristmill), custom long sleeve tech shirts, and fruit and beverages at the finish. Packet pickup is scheduled Friday evening in Fayetteville and Saturday morning at the Mann's Creek Picnic Area finish zone, which offers parking, restrooms and picnic facilities.
The event has a small field cap of 150 slots. Lodging options within the park include cabins and camping. October weather in the mountains can be cool and variable. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
