Austin Memorial Day Remembrance Run and Austin's Backyard Ultra
This multi-day race weekend takes place at Turkey Bend LCRA Recreation Area near Lago Vista and Marble Falls, Texas. The unified course traces a peninsula along the Colorado River and is an out-and-back trail with a tight finishing lollipop. Terrain alternates between open wildflower meadows, lakeside views, and shaded Hill Country woodland with rolling sections. Reflective markers guide runners through nighttime hours. A central start and finish corral is located near the park's main camping clusters and serves as the base for crew support and refueling.
The Backyard Ultra follows a looped format: one 4.2 mile loop per hour, a new loop starts at the top of each hour, and participants must complete each loop within the hour to continue. Runners who fail to complete a loop in time or choose not to start the next loop are eliminated; the last person to complete a loop is the overall winner.
The Memorial Day Remembrance Run uses the same course with no clock pressure and four distances available. A brief moment of silence and reflection is scheduled at the start line to honor the purpose of the day.
