Event Overview

The Atlanta to Savannah Adventure Race is a self-supported, self-navigated endurance running event covering a distance of over 250 miles. Participants travel on foot from Atlanta to Savannah, Georgia.

Event Format

The event has two participation formats: a team relay and a solo challenge.

  • Relay teams consist of 2 to 5 runners.
  • Solo runners complete the entire distance individually.

Route & Logistics

The event provides a suggested route based on a previous year's course, including key checkpoints. Teams must strategize their own specific route and transition zones. The suggested route is divided into four legs:

  • Atlanta to Monticello: Features urban and rural sections with rolling hills and greenways like the Rockdale River Trail.
  • Monticello to Milledgeville: Passes through agricultural areas with quiet roads.
  • Milledgeville to Metter: Characterized by straightaways and flatter terrain.
  • Metter to Savannah: Goes through rural landscapes before finishing in historic Forsyth Park.

The first approximately 30 miles of the route have sidewalks or greenways. The remainder primarily follows the shoulder of quiet country roads through small towns, residential areas, and farmland. There are no street closures, course markings, or official aid stations along the route.

Rules & Requirements

The core rule is that each team must have at least one person moving on foot, covering the entire distance from start to finish. Runners may alternate as often as desired at safe, legal transition points. Teams are responsible for their own navigation, support, and safety, and must follow all local laws. Vehicles used for support must not park on private property or block roadways. Teams are expected to maintain a collective average pace.

Participant Provisions

Registered participants receive a physical and digital Guidebook containing route information, checkpoints, and side-quests. GPX files and Strava routes for the suggested course are also provided. Relay teams receive an Adventure Kit which includes items like safety vests, water, a disposable camera, and nutrition samples. All registered runners and crew receive a commemorative t-shirt and a custom finisher medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
