Event Overview
The Askanagap Hill mountain run takes place in County Wicklow. The event features two course lengths: a long course of 8.50 km with 522 m of ascent, and a short course of 4.85 km with 258 m of ascent. It is part of the 2026 Southeast and Leinster Winter Leagues.
Course Details
The long course is a loop. The route starts with a 500m fire road, followed by a single track climbing alongside a fence to the summit. After a 2km downhill section, a steep 600m forest climb leads to a final series of ascents over open mountain. The finish is a 2.5km downhill return on the initial paths. The short course follows the initial climb to the summit cairn and returns directly to the start, making it an out-and-back route. The race is fully marked. GPS devices are not allowed.
Mandatory Kit
All runners must bring a specific set of mandatory equipment, designated as Level B - Standard. This includes a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, a whistle, a charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. Runners must have a means to carry all kit. The exact items to be carried during the race will be confirmed on event day based on conditions. Random checks may be conducted, and failure to have required items may lead to denied entry or disqualification.
