Asheville Independence Day 5K
The Asheville Independence Day 5K takes place on July 4 in downtown Asheville, North Carolina. The course begins and ends at Pack Square and follows a scenic route through the streets of downtown Asheville.
The event is presented as a community, family friendly 5K. Strollers are welcome and requested to start at the back of the field. Walkers may participate but are asked to plan on finishing within one hour and fifteen minutes. Dogs and other animals are not allowed to run with participants; service animals are permitted with prior approval and supporting documentation. Running with an animal leads to disqualification from award categories and timing results. The race field is capped at 700 runners.
A packet pick up party is scheduled on July 3 at The Mule, 131 Sweeten Creek Rd., Asheville. Online registration is available and closes on July 4 or when the event sells out. Pricing tiers listed for the 5K include $40 for Early Early Bird (Oct 1 to Dec 31, 2025), $50 for Early Bird (Jan 1 to May 31, 2026), and $60 for Summer Pricing (June 1 to July 3, 2026). A 15% group discount applies to registrations of four or more.
Registration includes a finisher medal, a short sleeved technical race t-shirt, a custom race bib, professional chip timing, a donation to Food Connection, and post race snacks. Five dollars from each 5K registration will be donated to Food Connection, a local nonprofit that began in December 2014 and has provided over 485,000 fresh meals while reducing food waste in the region.
The event has a no refund policy. Transfers are allowed up to five days before the event. In the event of inclement weather the race may be postponed to July 11 at the race director's discretion; there are no refunds for postponement. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
