Asheville Independence Day 5k
The Asheville Independence Day 5k is a community 5-kilometre run/walk held on July 4, 2026, in downtown Asheville, North Carolina. The course begins and ends at Pack Square Park / Court Plaza and takes participants through downtown streets. The event is capped at 700 runners. The race is professionally chip timed and includes a finisher medal for each participant.
Race details and policies
Registration includes a short-sleeved technical race shirt, a custom race bib, a finisher medal, chip timing, and post-race snacks. Five dollars from each 5k entry will be donated to Food Connection, the event’s nonprofit partner. Strollers are allowed but are asked to start at the back of the pack. Walkers are welcome but are asked to plan on finishing within one hour and 15 minutes. Dogs and other animals are not permitted to run with participants; service animals are allowed with prior approval and supporting documentation. Running with an animal will result in disqualification from award categories and timing results.
The event has a no-refund policy. In the event of inclement weather, the race may be postponed to July 11, 2026, at the race director’s discretion; there are no refunds for postponement or cancellation. Transfers to another runner or to a virtual entry are permitted up to five days before the event.
Awards
Awards include finisher medals for all participants, 2026 reclaimed wooden medals, and awards for top overall and age-group finishers across male, female, and non-binary categories, plus masters and grand masters. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
