Arthur E. Schumacher Memorial 5K Race
The Arthur E. Schumacher Memorial 5K is a community road race held during the Valley City Street Fair in Downtown Valley City, Ohio. The event takes place on August 16, 2026 at 6700 Center Road and is organized by the Valley City Firefighters Association.
The race honors an assistant fire chief who died during a water rescue on December 31, 1992. Proceeds from the event are set aside to support the Arthur E. Schumacher Scholarship Fund, which assists firefighters pursuing education in fire and EMS fields.

The course starts and ends with members of the fire department and includes a fun run segment through Mill Stream Park and surrounding neighborhoods. The 5K course has 135 feet of elevation change. The race is scheduled as part of the Street Fair program and includes community gathering time at the finish area before the fair activities continue.
The event was not held for several years due to the global pandemic and is being brought back by the Valley City Firefighters Association and community volunteers.
